Knapp Library

The Joseph Palmer Knapp Library houses a large collection of material on state and local government, public administration, and management to support the School's instructional and research programs and the educational mission of the Master of Public Administration program. Reference and research services are available to all residents of North Carolina, and additional assistance is available to state and local government personnel, both elected and appointed.

Government transparency and meaningful participation by residents in their local governments are vital concerns of local government leaders. This School of Government resource site is designed to help interested citizens, employees, and elected leaders have constructive methods for communicating about important programs and issues at the local government level in North Carolina.

We include practical research by School of Government scholars, an experimental blog on community engagement, key research and practice topics, consulting services, and more general resources on public deliberation and participation. The focus is on non-election structures and opportunities for public participation.
