Recovery Courts: An Overview for Defenders

This course is co-sponsored by the UNC School of Government and the Office of Indigent Defense Services.

This session focuses on the defense attorney’s role in recovery courts in North Carolina, including drug treatment, veterans, and DWI courts. Defenders will learn about relevant authorities and resources, how these courts work, the different players involved, how to navigate being an advocate and upholding client confidentiality while in a team setting, and what it means for a client to be successful in recovery court.
