February 26 - 27, 2026

This two-day North Carolina Judicial College seminar will explore the process of decision-making by district and superior court judges. Topics covered will include the law of judicial discretion, procedural fairness, and neuroscience and judging. Participants will have the opportunity to consider decision-making in the context of practical case application and to build a toolbox of strategies to aid in improved judicial performance. This course requires substantial individual participation in group discussions and other exercises.

Who should apply: District Court Judges and Superior Court Judges who have at least three years of experience on the bench may apply. Attendance is limited to 25 judges.

The application window closed on February 7 at 5:00 p.m. You will have been notified if you were admitted into the course.

This program will have 8.25 hours of qualifying general continuing judicial education credit under Rule II.C of Continuing Judicial Education.
