New Parent Defender Training

This training will be offered as an introductory program on representing respondent parents in abuse, neglect, and dependency proceedings, and in termination of parental rights proceedings.  Topics will include ethics and the role of counsel in dependency proceedings; communicating with clients and witnesses; problems with petitions; working with social workers and service providers; identifying and obtaining experts for respondents; and dispositional advocacy.  The program will feature workshops during which participants will have an opportunity to practice skills such as preparing for and cross examining expert witnesses.  For information about other indigent defense education courses, visit our Indigent Defense Education site.
