Courts and Judicial Administration

Juvenile defender conference

This conference addresses a number of topics of interest to attorneys who represent juveniles in delinquency proceedings.  Presentations at past conferences have included the role of defense counsel in delinquency proceedings; communicating with child clients, witnesses and victims; and navigating the grid and disposition advocacy.  The 2008 conference will focus on a timely issue: probable cause and transfer hearings.  Topics will include the nuts and bolts of probable cause and transfer; creative approaches to probable cause hearings; ethical dilemmas in the context of transfer; preparing for transfer hearings; working with experts; and strategies in negotiation.  For information about other indigent defense education courses, visit our Indigent Defense Education site.

Please note that if you would like to attend both the Juvenile Defender Conference and the Parent Attorney Conference, you must register for each separately.  To register for the Parent Attorney Conference, please visit the course webpage.
